Ocean Services SW (Ltd) has won the title Boiler & Renewables Installer of the Year at the National Green Deal & ECO Awards 2014.

The company had previously won the south-west regional award and competed against 16 finalists from around the UK to finally win the national title and bring it back to Cornwall.

The award recognises not only the company’s work installing boilers and renewables throughout Cornwall but also its commitment to working with partners such as Cornwall Council to raise awareness of the Green Deal and ECO initiatives. Ocean’s Managing Director, Howard Brett said,

“We really welcomed these initiatives and strongly believe they have a major role to play in the reduction of fuel poverty”.

Services Boiler Green Deal 4Pilot Project

Ocean was chosen to project manage and install various energy saving systems at a pilot project in Penwithick fully funded by Cornwall Council as a trial for Green Deal to find out which measures worked most effectively given some of Cornwall’s unique problems such as climate and geography.

Glowing endorsement

Ocean was also the first delivery partner chosen by Glow Cornwall (a collaboration between British Gas and Cornwall Council) to help install ECO funded measures throughout the county.

Gary Almond of Glow Cornwall said,

“My experience with Ocean has been one of complete satisfaction and considering I have been in the gas industry 45 years I am not easily impressed however, the team at Ocean has managed to exceed my high expectations”.

More Energy Efficient

Through initiatives such as Glow Cornwall, Ocean is at the forefront of helping make Cornwall’s homes more energy efficient by continuing to install renewable energy measures. Householders, landlords and tenants are encouraged to take advantage of the recently announced Green Deal Home Improvement Fund. The scheme helps people to install energy efficiency measures such as solid wall insulation and new heating systems by providing them with contributions of up to £7,600 towards improvements.

Fire hazards

Fire damage

Our concern is for your safety. We want to remind you how important it is to keep communal areas free of rubbish and any electrical/inflammable materials.

Fire Risk

Often we do not realise that we are causing a fire hazard. These examples can increase the risk of fire:

  • Leaving a push bike in the corridor of a block of flats
  • Storing a pram in the stairwell
  • Putting your rubbish in the communal hallway overnight before collection
  • Charging mobility scooters in communal areas.

It is equally dangerous to store rubbish or other inflammable materials outside against the walls of your home or next to any garden or boundary fencing.

All these hazards are easy to avoid:

By keeping communal areas and stairwells clear and disposing of rubbish properly, you are helping to keep you, your family and neighbours safe.
