One local family started the New Year with a new home thanks to Ocean Housing.
Local fisherman Chris, his wife Sue and their family recently returned to live in Mevagissey after being ‘priced-out’ of renting in the seaside village.
The Chesterfield’s are amongst several families who are delighted to have moved to the £1.6 million affordable housing development for local people.
Earlier this week residents celebrated with the community, Ocean Housing and Parish Council as The Dean of Truro, The Very Revd. Roger Bush declared the housing development officially open.
Chris told us
“We had to leave the area just over four years ago as renting privately became too expensive. Living in St Austell meant high costs for us to travel to work and we were often on edge wondering if our six month rolling tenancy would be extended”.
“It’s such a relief to be back in our home village of Mevagissey” continues Sue.
Chris and his family have lived here for years. He works his fishing boat out of the harbour and with the fishing industry as it is; he needs to go out at the ‘drop of a hat’, so being this close really helps.
“We’ve now got greater security, not to mention our girls who go to school here and it means I’m close to my family too”.
Roberts Close is the finishing touch to Ocean Housing’s original development of Shipbuilder Close and Lewenek View, totalling 30 homes for rent, shared ownership and open market sales.
The Dean of Truro, The Very Revd. Roger said
“It’s a great pleasure for the Church to be involved with projects such as Roberts Close. Supporting the development of affordable housing means the Church can make an important contribution and in some way, help to alleviate the issue for local people and their communities”.
“We start as we mean to go on” adds Ocean Group Chief Executive David Renwick. “2015 will be an extremely busy time for us as we aim to build 150 new homes throughout the year”.
“We’re thrilled with the place, the high quality finishes make it nice and cosy. It instantly felt like home from the moment we moved in” concludes Sue.
Ocean has a wide range of properties for part-buy and part-rent through Shared Ownership.
