Virtual Panel: We need you!

There’s one thing that most of us seem to never have enough of – and that’s time. We know you all have busy lives and might not be able to attend the tenant panel meetings we hold at our St Austell HQ each month – but we rely on your feedback to help shape and improve the services we offer.

So we’re creating a new online panel for residents, the Virtual Internet Panel (VIP), giving you the opportunity to have a greater say in what we do and how we do it, and influence the services which relate to the management of your homes. Your feedback is critical to understanding how we’re performing and how we can improve.

We’ll be using Facebook and email to communicate with our new Virtual Internet Panel, focusing on four major topics throughout the year, from repairs and complaints to customer engagement.  Feedback will come in many forms including quick questionnaires and Q&As. This isn’t a ‘tick box’ exercise: your views matter to us.

The first 100 people to sign up will be automatically entered into a £50 prize draw.

If you’d like to be involved, email us at with your name and contact details, or call the Tenant Involvement Team on 01726 874450, and we’ll be in touch.

Alternatively, you can fill in the form below.

A local family were celebrating after sharing their views in Ocean’s latest customer survey led to winning the prize draw for a brand new Smart TV.

As part of the plan to help the organisation and its customers get ready for Universal Credit and improved digital customer service, Ocean Housing contacted all tenants and residents to seek their feedback.

“Filling out the survey only took a few minutes over a cup of tea,” shared local mum Karin, from St Agnes. “Ocean’s Customer Accounts team have always been very helpful when we’ve been in touch with them, as has our patch officer, James. So we didn’t mind at all helping to update Ocean via this survey. We never dreamed we’d actually win the TV though!”

Ocean’s Quality and Performance Manager, Anna Pascoe, led the project and explained Ocean’s perspective:

“Welfare reforms have been coming thick and fast over recent years and this survey was one of the many methods we are using at Ocean to help customers prepare for and understand current and coming changes, such as the digital-only Universal Credit system. We were delighted with the response to the survey and look forward to taking on board the comments shared.”

Banner-My-Ocean-GC-sign-in-sign-upCustomer Service Manager, David Jory, added:

“We are keen to be responsive to customers across new as well as traditional communications, and it was great to see over 150 survey respondents sign up to our online account service My Ocean.”

WW1 Memorial Challenge winner announced

WW1 Memorial Challenge Congratulations winner

Ocean Housing Group has now completed a ‘Design a World War I Memorial Challenge‘; as part of the ‘Cornwall Remembers’ campaign to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I this July.

The winner has now been announced – St. Michael’s Catholic Secondary School’s design has been selected as the Winning Design. Congratulations!

Kimberly Gould St Michaels Catholic Secondary School 1ST PRIZE designThe winning memorial design will be brought to life by Ocean’s apprentices. It will be erected in the county and officially opened to launch this year’s special Centenary Poppy Appeal in late October/early November; as part of Ocean’s ongoing support for the Royal British Legion.

The school will receive a whopping £1000 and a replica of the memorial will be unveiled at the presentation ceremony in October 2014. But that’s not all. The school will also be presented with one of Ocean’s Giant Poppies provided by Ocean’s very own apprences, to mark the 2014 Poppy Appeal.

Fowey Academy runner upRunners up

Congratulations to Fowey Community College who were runners up. The school will receive a handsome £500 in prize money.

Thank you to all those who entered the Challenge. We have been impressed and indeed, touched by the emotive and sensitive responses to the brief.

This team-based challenge has been an opportunity to bring history to life for the next generation. To truly understand the design brief and develop a strong design concept, students had to explore the reality of war and reflect on the sacrifice made by over 9 million combatants.

Group Chief Executive, David Renwick commented:

“The competition is open to all schools in the county for years 7, 8 and 9.  The centenary is a time to reflect on the 3 S’s: Sacrifice, Service and impact on Society”.

Giant Poppy

Ocean’s apprentices, who last year created the largest poppy in the UK for the front of Stennack House (Head Office), will also provide a giant poppy to be erected at the winning school during this year’s Poppy appeal.

David Renwick commented

“The competition will, we hope, help us all reflect on past sacrifices but also promote the ongoing valuable work of Cornwall’s Royal British Legion in supporting veterans in 2014 and beyond.”  Royal British Legion
