Design of the times for Ocean residents

Staff and customers from St-Austell-based housing provider Ocean Housing made the trip to Plymouth recently to help design homes of the future at the South West Residents Design Conference 2017.

The event brought together social housing customers from around the region and gave the opportunity to learn everything you never knew had to be borne in mind when starting a new development! Participants heard about the nature and wildlife considerations which housing associations work with when planning new communities and went on virtual tours of properties via Virtual Reality Headsets.

Ron Deacle, an Ocean resident from Newquay, spoke of his enjoyment of the day:

“It was really interesting to meet with other residents and help input on making future developments to be designed around the customers’ needs. I look forward to seeing our ideas put into action.”

Alice Maffey, one of Ocean’s Development Officers, helped facilitate one of the group discussions:

“We know that there are many people in housing need in Cornwall and an event like this has been brilliant for getting the best possible feedback on how we can design and build our schemes even better in future.”
