Local community involvement
More than 300 pupils between the age of five and seven years old from Newquay primary schools were invited to enter a drawing competition to design their ‘Dream Home’.
The six winning children from The Bishops School and Trenance Learning Academy won a selection of art equipment so they can continue with their creativity and love of drawing with the overall winner gaining £500 for their school.
The winners were welcomed to the site along with David Sleeman, the town’s mayor and the councillor for the Treloggan area, for the Turf Cutting Event to mark the start of the build on Thursday 5th November.
Laying the Foundations – Schools’ ‘Dream Home’ competition
Alexa Kendle, age 5, from The Bishops C of E School, was extremely thrilled when she discovered that she had won Ocean’s ‘Draw Your Dream Home’ competition.’ Alexa won a considerable cash prize of £500 for her school and as a special surprise the winners from the Newquay Primary Schools were invited to visit the site to fulfil their dream of riding in a digger to be the first to cut the turf.
“I really loved drawing my dream home and I’ve had great fun today riding in the digger with the builders”, said Alexa.
“The children have really engaged with this competition and have thoroughly enjoyed being creative by designing and drawing their very own dream home. It’s been a real treat for the winners to fulfil their dream of riding in a digger”.
“It’s also a great opportunity for the local children to take a look around the site and discover what’s involved in building a new development”, continues Sharon.
Ocean Group Chief Executive, David Renwick, adds,
“Alongside building new affordable homes for local people and by including schools in the area it gives us great pride to give something back to the community”.
