Energy Efficiency Upgrades

We're on a mission to reduce fuel poverty, cut carbon emissions, and make homes warmer for our tenants. We’re focusing on homes that currently fall below an EPC rating of C - which measures how energy-efficient a home is, from A to E. By 2030, all our homes should reach at least a C rating.

To get there, we’re carrying out upgrades like new roofs, solar panels, external wall insulation, energy-efficient windows and doors, and better heating systems.

Last year, we improved 270 homes through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund. We’ve since secured more funding to continue this work in even more homes.

What to expect

This project is designed to help make your home more affordable to heat and more comfortable to live in.

If we think your home may be eligible, you will be contacted by a surveyor who will then complete an initial assessment. This will help us determine the best energy-saving solutions for your home.

Who will be doing the work, and when will I hear from them?

We’re working with trusted partners, LMF Energy Services and Taylor Lewis, to help deliver this project. If your home qualifies, they’ll be in touch to carry out surveys and installations on our behalf.

As this work is part-funded through grant schemes, there are strict deadlines and criteria we need to meet. That means things can move quickly once your home is selected. We know our partners may not always communicate as clearly as we do, but we’re working closely with them to make sure you’re kept informed and supported throughout the process.

My neighbours are getting upgrades, why aren't I?

Although buildings look the same on the outside, there can be small differences that mean the work carried out in one home might not be suitable for another - even if they're on the same street.

Eligibility for these upgrades varie, due to funding criteria, and is not necessarily linked to who lives in the building. We are evaluating all homes over the next few years and if you are eligible, we will be in touch to let you know.

Can I stay in my home whilst work is carried out?

We know having work done in your home can be disruptive, so we’ll do everything we can to make it easier for you.

We’ll give you clear notice before any work starts, including what’s happening, when and what to expect. While the work is going on, we’ll make sure your home stays safe, clean and liveable. You’ll still have heating, ventilation, and access to your home.

You’ll also have chances to ask questions and share feedback, and we’ll respond quickly to any concerns.

Once the work is finished, we’ll guide you through how to use any new systems and explain how the changes can help you save energy.

How do I get my electricity meter swapped to Economy 7?

An Economy 7 tariff is an electricity plan that charges a cheaper rate for electricity overnight and a higher rate during the day. This can be beneficial if you use a lot of electricity at night for example when running storage heaters, but it's not suitable for everyone.

To get your meter changed to Economy 7, contact your electricity supplier and explain you want to switch from your standard tariff to an Economy 7 tariff. Your supplier will arrange a meter change appointment, and the process is the same as a smart meter replacement.
