New executive director appointed to strengthen governance

Ocean Housing has appointed Asantewaa Brenya as its new Executive Director of Governance, Risk and Performance, a newly created role that will lead a more robust and proactive approach to governance and regulation across the organisation.

Asantewaa will join Ocean Housing on 18 May 2026 and will play a key role in enhancing governance, risk and performance frameworks.

The role has been created as Ocean Housing strengthens its approach to regulatory compliance, with a clear focus on regaining a G1 rating from the Regulator of Social Housing.

Asantewaa brings extensive experience in governance and assurance across the housing sector and beyond. Most recently a Director at Altair, Asantewaa supported a wide range of organisations with governance programmes, following the delivery of the governance and legal workstream for the Sovereign Network merger.

Her previous roles include senior governance and company secretary positions at several registered providers, including Network Homes and Raven Housing Trust, alongside wider experience in national organisations such as the Competitions and Markets Authority, UK Sport, Camden Council, Age UK and Save the Children.

She has deep expertise in corporate governance, risk management and assurance frameworks, and has worked extensively with boards and executive teams to strengthen compliance, performance reporting and stakeholder engagement. She is also a Chartered Secretary and co-author of the Chartered Governance Institute’s Certificate in Social Housing Governance.

Jitinder Takhar, Chief Executive of Ocean Housing, said:

“We are thrilled to be welcoming Asantewaa to Ocean Housing. This newly created Executive Director role reflects our commitment to improving governance, risk management and performance as we continue to grow and evolve as an organisation.

Working with our tenants, we have set out a clear direction through our new Corporate Plan for the next three years. Our immediate focus is on returning to a G1 rating and delivering the high-quality services our tenants expect and depend on.

This appointment marks a clear step change in our approach to regulation, with more robust governance frameworks and oversight now in place.

Asantewaa brings a wealth of experience, and her expertise will be key to embedding this approach and building a strong, resilient Ocean Housing for the future.”
