Ocean Housing adds new homes to Newquay

Ocean Housing’s latest affordable housing development in Nansledan, Newquay has welcomed tenants and residents.

38 homes in total, the development includes a mix of shared ownership and intermediate rent.

31 are now complete with seven more to be delivered by March next year.

They are designed to meet the needs of local families, individuals, and first-time buyers seeking stability and connection to their local communities.

To mark the occasion we held an event at Parc Mengleudh on Friday 15th August, and welcomed tenants, residents, community partners, and local organisations to a lively afternoon of family-friendly activities.

Ocean tenant, Chloe Meadows said: “I loved it. This is the first time I’ve known about anything taking place on the green since I’ve been here so it was really lovely. It was nice to see familiar faces from Ocean too and get answers to things I missed when I first moved in.”

The event included yoga on the green, story time hosted by Newquay Library, face painting, and outdoor games led by Healthy Cornwall.

Cornwall Council’s Portfolio Holder for Housing also joined us to celebrate the milestone.

The celebration was sponsored by Morrish Homes, who partnered with us on the build.

Ben Bussy, Head of Commercial for Morrish, said: “We are delighted to be working alongside Ocean Housing to deliver quality, affordable homes for local people in Nansledan. The success of our partnership is underpinned by our mutual desire to create positive, healthy and happy environments to live in and call home.”

The scheme is part of Ocean’s wider commitment to deliver 1,000 homes between 2021 and 2030.

“This development has been a long time in the making,” said Chris Grose, the Chair of the Ocean Housing Board, during his opening speech. “These homes have been built with care, with purpose, and with local people at their heart. Today is about celebrating what matters most — giving local people the chance to stay and thrive in the communities they grew up in.”

The homes in Nansledan join a growing list of affordable, high-quality homes within Ocean’s portfolio.

Last year alone, we delivered 138 new homes across Cornwall, with active sites currently underway in Mabe Burnthouse, Padstow, and Hayle.

A 100% affordable housing scheme in Mylor Bridge is also set to break ground shortly.
